Mr. Thomas Calvin.Smalls Jr. was born on September 30th 1959, the third child of three children and the only son born to Thomas C. Smalls Sr and Dolores DeVega Smalls. Thomas Jr. grew up in East Elmhurst, Queens where the family made their home. It was there he attended public schools in Jackson Heights and graduated from Flushing High School in 1977. Tommy was very interested in electronics and studied at the Technical Career Institute where he received an AAS in Electrical Engineering. He then went on to work for Con Edison as an Electrical Engineer for 15 years. Tommy has always had a love of broadcasting and decided to pursue his dream and follow in his fathers footsteps and then became a part time D.J. on a gospel station in Atlantic City during the weekends. He then went on to work for WTHE in Long Island as Program Director and an on-air personality for two years. In 2001 he went to work for Security Technologies Group as a Security Systems Specialist. It was during this year that he married his longtime girlfriend, Hope Hendricks. To this union was born a son Carter Thomas Smalls in 2004 joining his big sister Kendra who was born in 1988. Tommy continued his career in security and went to work for HSM Honeywell until earlier this year. Tommy passed away on Monday, November 26, 2007. He leaves to mourn his passing, his mother Dolores Smalls Berrien and Step-Father Todd Berrien. His sisters; Laura Smalls McNamee and Shawn-nee Noriega. His sister Sharon Smalls McCray predeceased him in 1997. His two children; Kendra and Carter. His nieces; Michelle McCray, Tahnee Bodden, Alyssa Noriega McIntosh, Ryan Noriega and Nephews; Michael McCray, Blaise McNamee, Jorel McCray, Cole McNamee; His former wife Hope and a host of other relatives and friends. Tommy will be deeply missed.
